How the weekly total is worked out
Each day's row is worked out exactly like the standalone Hours Calculator: clock-out minus clock-in, minus the unpaid break, with an overnight shift that crosses midnight handled automatically. A day left blank counts as 0 hours, not an error. The seven days are then added together, and the weekly total is split into regular and overtime hours at 40 hours.

Worked example
Five days of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM with a 30-minute lunch break is 7.5 hours a day — 37.50 hours for the week, all within the regular 40-hour threshold.

What if I didn't work every day?
Leave both the clock-in and clock-out fields blank for any day off — it's treated as 0 hours for that day, not as an error. An error is only shown if just one of the two times is filled in for a day.
Why 40 hours for overtime, and not 8 hours per day like the Hours Calculator?
Weekly overtime (over 40 hours in a single work week) is the more common threshold for a time card, while the standalone Hours Calculator's 8-hour line is a per-shift daily threshold — the two are different conventions for different situations, and neither is a universal legal rule. Confirm which applies to you with your employer or local labor law.
