Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information TheCalculatory ("we," "us") collects when you use https://thecalculatory.com (the "Site"), and what we do with it. We have tried to write it in plain language rather than boilerplate, because most of what people want to know is simple: your calculator inputs never leave your browser.

1. Calculator inputs stay on your device

Every calculator on the Site runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. When you type a number into a field — a loan amount, a birth date, a body weight, anything — that value is used to compute a result on your own device and is never transmitted to our servers, stored in a database, or seen by us in any form. We could not tell you what any visitor has typed into a calculator, because that information never reaches us.

2. Accounts and forms

The Site does not currently have user accounts, sign-ups, newsletters, or any form that collects personal information. If that changes in the future, this policy will be updated first to describe what is collected and why.

3. Server and hosting logs

Like virtually any website, the server or content-delivery network that hosts the Site automatically logs basic technical information for every request it serves — things like IP address, browser type, the page requested, and the time of the request. This is standard web-server behaviour, used only for security, abuse prevention, and diagnosing technical problems, and is not linked to any calculator input you enter.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

The Site itself does not set cookies to track you. If we enable an analytics tool (to understand which calculators are useful and which need work) or advertising through a service such as Google AdSense, those third-party services may set their own cookies or use similar technologies, and may collect information such as your approximate location, device type, and browsing activity across sites, in accordance with their own privacy policies. As of the effective date above, advertising is not yet enabled on the Site and no analytics tool has been enabled either. This policy will be updated, and this section replaced with specifics, before either is turned on.

5. Fonts and other third-party resources

Pages on the Site load typefaces from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). Loading a font from Google's servers means your browser makes a direct request to Google, which can see technical information about that request (such as your IP address) the same way any server can for any request made to it. Google's handling of that information is governed by Google's own privacy policy, not this one.

6. Children's privacy

The Site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age — see Section 1 above for why: there is nothing for us to collect from calculator use in the first place.

7. Your choices

Because the Site does not collect personal information from calculator use, there is generally nothing for us to access, correct, or delete on your behalf. If we do add any data collection in the future (for example, analytics or advertising), this policy will describe what choices are available to you at that time, consistent with applicable law.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, including as the Site adds features such as analytics or advertising. The "Effective" date above reflects the most recent revision. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

9. Governing law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein.
